The Verbal and Visual Vomit of Andy Orsow

Thumbs Down

Life has been really intense lately. This is how i feel right now though.
Interview tomorrow with probably the coolest people in town, so thats good.
on the application its asking me how long i plan on working there for. How do i answer that?
We can get into things thinking that they will be awesome but what happens
when life throws you a curve ball? Maybe i'll just put down "until life throws me another curve ball"
yeah, i'm sure that will land me the job right? every party needs a pooper!
and thats what i am tonight. A pooper for reals.

You know its good when...

you pretty much have guitar strings burnt into your finger tips. Granted, i just put down my guitar, but still...
I'm going to be playing the Hawthorne Theater tomorrow in Portland, OR for the first time, i guess you could say i'm pretty stoked on that.
then it's centralia, WA and Tacoma. Then home, maybe with an acoustic stop in eugene? Weekend Warriors!
in other news( e.g. photo #2 ), i'm just gonna say it, i look good.
Chase Danielle cuts real good hair, he also snapped the photo!

Wow, what big days.

What did i do this week? Oh NBD, bought a guitar, deposited all my college money into my checking account. (it's scary to have that kind of money - i've still convinced myself I only have $19.05 in my account like i did the week before.) That money goes to buying an RV that I and my Band can live(me)/tour(me and band) in. I just sent an e-mail to someone inquiring about a winnebago that is probably too big but is stupid cheap, so we'll see.
What else did i do this week? Well i painted a bit, listened to a lot of really good music(dan auerbach, the tallest man on earth), i've decided i'm going to start buying vinyl records, because they're amazing. wrote some really good music, currently writing good music. Had music played to me, Had my mind blown while listening to frank sinatra and john lennon, got excited, heard sad news, did the best i could with the time i had, still dealing with unfortunate circumstances. had my life changed. All in all a pretty good week.
I'm alive, and it is good.

edit:

Other thoughts. Lately a big theme in my life has been the impressive and somewhat humorous juxtaposition of my life against others'. I was washing my awesome car, about to deposit a stupidly large check in the bank, and right next to me was a girl my age or less fishing through a trash can, picking up a pack of cigarettes and shaking it to see if there were any left.

I also walked through hawthorne park in medford and passed many homeless folks - i realized i have a choice, put myself down for being such a spoiled lucky shit, or just do my life justice and do my best all around, all the time. I've decided upon the latter.

oh, and i also rode a motorcycle!

Adventures in Typography, Profanity and the Self.

3AM -i've been trying to convey this for a while, but i keep on scrapping what i write because it seems to whiny and shitty and emo.

This was therapy. Thanks,

-Andy

This was also an interesting look into profanity for me, i've never had the cleanest of mouths but i know when enough is enough and when to clean up my speak. I ran across this blog a little over a week ago, she does not cuss(very often), because of her belief in the power of words, to badly paraphrase. It's something i've been mulling over in the back of my head ever since.

This post/piece obviously really goes for it with the gratuitous use of the word "Fuck" I think i'd like to include one of the images in my portfolio, although it hardly seems professional.

Also an adventure in the "Century" font.

If you can't read the words on the right they can be found here.

————————————————————————————

It is 2:10 AM and i’ve spent the past two hours on this piece. It began as a simple visual and typographical representation of a word that in it’s self, when spoken aloud, symbolizes a common emotion i feel, especially at this time of night.

“FFUUUCCCKKKKKKK”

Say it with me now.

You know exactly what i’m talking about. Maybe its a sense of unrest, or unhappiness. Maybe i’m just too tired and it begins to take a toll on my mental health. But lately, at this time of night i find my self  returning to productivity and creativity. Something I’ve been experiencing a lack of during the day which has been paramount in the development of this emotion.

This creativity only occurs when it holds no purpose other than to create. It is not for a client, it is for my mental health.
It is my Self/God/The Universe quietly tapping me on the shoulder and saying

“Hey, you’re going to be okay.”

coastie is GGOOOOOOO!!!!!

I am in love with this bike. It feels so good to ride something that you actually put effort into creating.
Not that buying a brand new bike doesn't feel awesome too, but stripping your old bike down to nothing
and creating something new and unique from something old and just "okay" feels amazing.

Thats a coaster brake hub on the back, which is much crazier of an experience than i expected,
It will take you back to the good ol' days of your first bike, when you felt so cool when you learned how to hockey
stop on the gravel in your driveway. Except this time, its concrete and the bike lane, and traffic right next to you
a bit un nerving at points, i'm still learning control over it.

I think this is the key to why i've been so un-productive lately, i've had no balance with exercise and computering.
therefore i've just been procrastinating all day long every day. Damn i feel good, and i'm going to be very sore.
lets go one a bike ride, sometime, shall we?

stoked.
